Endoplasmic reticulum is made up of networks of membrane-bound tubules that are located in the cytoplasm of the cell. There are two types; rough ER, which is where ribosomes are found, is involved in protein synthesis. Smooth ER is involved in cellular synthesis. Endoplasmic reticulum can also serve to transport substances from point to point within the cell.
